I struggled writing this review. Mostly because I am torn. I LOVED Sarah’s last record – Suburban Nature. It was simply amazing. Her voice, her lyrics, her use of dynamics, her tonal colors. The style on that record was folky.
The Body Wins is not folky. She still has an amazing voice. Her lyrics are still profound yet accessible. The dynamics in the songs are interesting and keeps you guessing. And the tonal colors are even better this go round. But I’m more of a “folky” guy. This record is not folky. It’s percussive and abrasive and kind of edgy. And even though the music isn’t my cup of tea, I’ll keep drinking it up. Because it’s still sounds like Jaffe.
