Ethan Lipton is a playwright and a songwriter. So it makes perfect sense for his new album to be the soundtrack to his play. Ethan and his orchestra write a musical/concept album about a man loosing his job. Of course, it is about more than just that. But on the surface it is about a man who no longer has a “place to go” every day. The album works as a concept, as a whole but it also has some great individual songs that can stand along. Stylistically, Ethan Lipton + His Orchestra play a blend of jazz, vocal crooning, old-time and spoken word.

Now that April is have over, it’s time to start thinking about May, which means summer is right around the corner. As is the new album from The Two Man Gentleman Band. Tenor Guitarist Andy Bean and standup bassist Fuller Condon are the two men in the band. Their music is a throw back to a simpler time when two guys and eight strings can make interesting music with clever, innuendo-laden lyrics. When musicians were performers and put on “a show”.

Their new album (stream it below) is a 13 track romp thru the tin pan alleyways of America. It’s songs about love, life and pursuit of happiness (please don’t water it down!). The album is available for download via bandcamp or pre-order a hard copy (comes with free download).

Listen to the who album (via bandcamp):
