Some cool vids:

Ethan Lipton is a playwright and a songwriter. So it makes perfect sense for his new album to be the soundtrack to his play. Ethan and his orchestra write a musical/concept album about a man loosing his job. Of course, it is about more than just that. But on the surface it is about a man who no longer has a “place to go” every day. The album works as a concept, as a whole but it also has some great individual songs that can stand along. Stylistically, Ethan Lipton + His Orchestra play a blend of jazz, vocal crooning, old-time and spoken word.
Listen to a few tracks below. Buy the record and you’ll be happy you did.

Watch a cool video:

The Young Romans are Brad Hooks and Sari Mellafe. The duo makes perfectly sweet music, perfectly suited for soundtracks. In fact, their song “Where You Go” was the closing song from Ewan McGregor’s “Salmon Fishing In The Yemen”. Their new album is called Tiger Child. Check out the title track below.
Happy May everyone!

Some Live footage:

Now that April is have over, it’s time to start thinking about May, which means summer is right around the corner. As is the new album from The Two Man Gentleman Band. Tenor Guitarist Andy Bean and standup bassist Fuller Condon are the two men in the band. Their music is a throw back to a simpler time when two guys and eight strings can make interesting music with clever, innuendo-laden lyrics. When musicians were performers and put on “a show”.
Their new album (stream it below) is a 13 track romp thru the tin pan alleyways of America. It’s songs about love, life and pursuit of happiness (please don’t water it down!). The album is available for download via bandcamp or pre-order a hard copy (comes with free download).

It would be Michael Kiwanuka. He’s got a voice smooth as soft serve and an school motown sound that will surly appeal to the masses.

Bonus cover of that one song everyone seems to be covering:
My Dad pointed this out to me. Pretty sweet Hall & Oates cover (while driving, no less).
Nicki Bluhm And The Gramblers hail from San Fran and use some of my favorite instruments (ukulele and melodica) and remind me a little of Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. They like to cover songs in their van. They also like to make their own music.
